Care Guide: How to Care for Your Re-Run Cracked

The Mercer Re-Run Cracked is crafted from premium cracquelé nappa leather, prized for its distinctive crackled texture and dazzling metallic finish. This special leather-treatment process means every pair develops its own unique character over time, giving the shoe its signature vintage look. Because of this delicate finish, the leather requires a little extra care compared to standard nappa leather. Following the tips below will help you enjoy the shoe's authentic look and feel for as long as possible.

Care Guide: How to Care for Your Re-Run Cracked

Cleaning

  • Remove dust and dirt with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Do not use water, damp cloths, or cleaning products directly on the leather — this may accelerate flaking of the cracquelé effect.
  • Avoid rubbing; dabbing is preferred over scrubbing.

Impregnating

  • Only use a colourless, leather-specific impregnation spray (no universal or silicone-based sprays) and test it on an inconspicuous spot first.
  • Spray thinly and evenly from a distance and let it dry completely at room temperature.

Avoid contact with

  • Sharp objects, rough surfaces, and aggressive substances (perfume, alcohol, solvents).
  • Prolonged exposure to moisture or extreme temperatures.

Extra tips

  • Use a shoehorn to prevent damage to the heel and the leather.
  • Use shoe trees to help maintain the shape without forcing the leather.

Important to know

The crackled effect is an intentional and unique feature of this leather, not a manufacturing defect. Due to the nature of the material, some change or flaking over time is normal and part of the shoe's vintage look.
