Sustainability logo's

We place a strong emphasis on sustainability and collaborate with various certifications, all of which are detailed on each product page. Here’s what each logo represents:

The ISO 14001 certification is awarded to our factories and it is the international standard that specifies requirements for an effective environmental management system. This means the factory minimises its effect on the environment by reducing waste and optimising the use of resources.

BSCI stands for Business Social Compliance Initiative and is a certification awarded to factories in compliance with work place standards. It works in the following way: an auditor visits the factory at least once every 2 years (but hopefully more often), to check the factory based on factors such as child labour, working hours, social management systems and more. As a brand we do not work with any factory that is not BSCI compliant on the highest levels, let alone unaudited.

The Global Recycled Standard verifies that a product contains actual recycled content so that there is no fakery involved. As a brand we like to guarantee at least 65% recycled content in every ingredient (unless it's leather or plant-based).

The Leather Working Group is a not-for-profit organisation that assesses the environmental performance of leather manufacturers across the world and awards different prices to their performance. The highest rating (unsurprisingly) are bronze, silver and gold. As a brand we source exclusively from gold-rated leather producers - ensuring the maximum effort has been undertaken to minimise the impact on the environment during the production of leather.

As a brand we are PETA-approved, this does not mean every style is vegan, this is specified per model. When you see this certification it means the specific shoe is free of animal ingredients and 100% vegan. As a brand we try not to substitute leather with plastic, but only with a plant-based alternative. We do not think introducing more plastic as an alternative to leather is the solution.

Piñatex is the producer of our famous pineapple fabric. Originally invented in the Philippines as a way to give pineapple farmers a new stream of income, the Piñatex material made its way into shoes together with us in 2016. Produced sustainably from the leaves of pineapples, it serves as a great substitute for animal-based materials.

Bluesign is a certification awarded on a product basis. Every item carrying a bluesign PRODUCT or APPROVED label has been manufactured to strict safety and environmental requirements. Known as the bluesign CRITERIA, these are the highest standards in the industry.

SEAQUAL is a seal awarded on a product basis, and it tells you the product is made from high quality 100% post-consumer recycled polyester yarn containing SEAQUAL® MARINE PLASTIC from the SEAQUAL INITIATIVE; in other words plastic from the ocean.
