Care Guide: How to care for your Mercer Wardrobe

We design our pieces to last, but how you care for them plays a big role too. The right wash, dry, and storage routine keeps colours vibrant, fabrics soft, and shapes intact for years to come. Below you'll find easy-to-follow care instructions for every category in our collection.

Care Guide: How to care for your Mercer Wardrobe

Tees, Tops, Sweats, Pants & Oxfords

These everyday essentials are made from durable fabrics, but a few small habits will keep them looking fresh for longer.

  • Wash inside out with similar colours at 30°C — this protects prints, seams, and colour from friction and fading
  • Do not tumble dry — heat from the dryer can shrink fabric and weaken fibres over time
  • Steam on low heat to remove wrinkles without damaging the fabric

Air drying flat or on a hanger, out of direct sunlight, is the best way to help these pieces keep their shape between wears.

Jackets

Our jackets are made from materials that require professional care to maintain their shape, structure, and finish.

Dry clean only — this is the only recommended cleaning method for jackets

Avoid washing, hand washing, or spot-treating at home, as this can affect the fit, lining, or outer fabric. Always take your jacket to a professional dry cleaner.

Wool Knits, Vests & Pants

Our wool pieces are made from more delicate, natural fibres that need a gentler approach than dry cleaning.

How to Clean

  • Hand wash on cold for light refreshing between wears
  • Use a mild wool or cashmere detergent — regular detergent can be too harsh and strip natural fibres
  • Dry flat in the shade to avoid stretching and sun damage

What to Avoid

Do not tumble dry — heat and tumbling can felt, shrink, or misshape wool and knitwear beyond repair

A Few General Tips

  • Always check the care label before washing, as fabric blends can vary slightly between styles
  • Let garments cool and air out after wearing before storing them
  • Store knits folded rather than hung, to prevent stretching at the shoulders

Following these steps will help your favourite pieces stay in great shape, wash after wash, season after season.
